Linux Fedora 19 Boot Grub2

The update from Fedora 18 to Fedora 19 doesn’t update the default grub file correctly which is located in /etc/default/grub Use vi to change the GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR to equal “Linux Fedora 19”

GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR=”Linux Fedora 19″

Note: The correct kernel for Fedora 19 was being used. The GRUB_THEME is also pointing to a now empty default grub2 system directory. Use vi to change this to:

GRUB_THEME=”/boot/grub2/themes/starfield/theme.txt”

To make these boot changes permanent run:

grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2/grub.cfg

After a reboot of the machine, the graphical interface will now appear.

After a clean install of Fedora 19 there is just grub2. If you want the graphical interface on boot up, then edit /etc/default/grub Comment out the line #GRUB_TERMINAL_OUTPUT=”console” and then add the line GRUB_BACKGROUND=/boot/grub2/themes/system/fireworks.png To make these boot changes permanent run:

grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2/grub.cfg

Fedora 18 Adobe Flash Install

Even though the adobe flash player for Linux is free, it is not packaged with the Fedora 18 Open Source Linux Software, so you will need to manually install it, in order for adobe flash to work with your web browser.

You need to login in as superuser “su” using terminal or login from the console as root.

If you are installing on 32 bit computer architecture then run the following command:

rpm -ivh http://linuxdownload.adobe.com/adobe-release/adobe-release-i386-1.0.1.noarch.rpm

If you are installing on 64 bit computer architecture then run the following command:

rpm -ivh http://linuxdownload.adobe.com/adobe-release/adobe-release-x86_64-1.0.1.noarch.rpm

Now you need to install the gpg key:

rpm –import /etc/pki/rpm-gpg/RPM-GPG-KEY-adobe-linux

Next run yum to get the latest adobe plugin release

yum update

The last thing to do is install the plugin wrapper:

yum install flash-plugin nspluginwrapper

After this, any future running of yum or yumex will install any adobe release software.

Or if you prefer, you can download the software from the main adobe website Download Adobe Flash Player
